It was a case where earlier success gave Doug Harvey the inspiration to take his photography to the next level. Like most photographers, Doug has spent a mind-boggling amount of time, money and energy to find that one defining moment, that one instant of time, when photographer and camera become one. As a young man wandering around the European countryside, Doug found the best way to make conversation was to put his inexpensive tourist camera to use. “People see a camera and their face lights up.” Not long after returning to the states, he began to compile these pictures and was astounded by the results and the interest his photos created. Doug Harvey had found his niche in life, and he wanted more of it.

Years later, Doug still can’t get a camera out of his hand, and besides working on a book, manages over 15 models. He spends the first several hours of most mornings sifting through his email for offers and requests for service. Not one to forget where he came from, Doug still shoots weddings and senior portraits on occasion. His success has led to a faster than expected growth, which in turn has allowed Doug to expand and to take advantage of technology and fine tune his corporate portfolios. Though he’ll be the first to tell you his preference lies with the scenic outdoors and models, which is where you’ll typically find him when there’s a hole in his schedule.

Of the many qualities that separate Doug from other professional photographers is his innate ability to ‘see’ one frame ahead of his camera. Desperately trying to avoid what’s already been done, he dares to be different. But whether his subject is a model or a bottle, his approach remains the same, meticulous, methodical and systematic with a touch of creativity. Taking the time to account for every possible variation and then waiting for the exact moment to capture an instant that will last forever.
